Top Movers Alerts

Introduction

This tool attempts to front-run news events and large catalysts. It monitors for unusually large moves, based on volume and volatility, all within 5-minute timeframes. While monitoring stocks with 500,000 in volume throughout the day, it could trigger an alert at any moment.

Why was this tool built?

Some of the best trades can be made if you're just a few minutes ahead of news headlines. That's because major headlines can lead to major inflows or sell-offs from algorithms and institutional investors. For example, Elon Musk's tweet about taking Tesla private at $420, or the successful clinical trial of a biotech company. This tool is meant to help you catch these trades before everyone else, to make sure you get a seat on the rocket ship.

What are the criteria to trigger an alert?

  1. 1.
Volume spikes within a short 1-minute or 5-minute timeframe
  2. 2.
Relative Volume (RVol) is higher greater than 1, meaning the stock is more volatile than usual relative to itself
  3. 3.
It needs to have enough liquidity to allow you to get in and out with relative ease. That’s usually going to be companies with $1B+ market caps or 500,000 in daily volume.

So what?

We've seen this tool front-run a lot of bank-related news during the SVB crisis. It called out WAL, for example, before a 158% jump. We don't guarantee that every single alert will lead to a massive swing. But with the right confluence of events and proper risk management, these alerts could capture the largest swings of the day.
